Was the Statue of Liberty actually a .....gift * to * .......the French?

The French just ended Napoleonic run control and many other hardships already had befallen the Nation of France as well

Was the actual rendering of "The New Colossus" to mean that By giving the USA this,they were telling their own nation to be like The USA ?





Is that like buying a gift for your husband/wife...... Knowingly that you will get more out of it than would your husband/wife.

With conquering limbs astride from land to land;

A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame

Was it man kinds selfishness or was it a gift of love expressed between man kinds Governments ?

Is God's government to be fulfilled and put an end to all mans Governments?



This is how they wanted their citizenry to feel....
which is not the way folks were feeling about their country at the time period.

If it was, why is the poem in English? I can't imagine the French being interested in "imitating" anything. They have their pride you know.
